Eyeliner is back

I told you in some of my recent posts (see here and here) I'm every day more into eyeliner again as I may have found a flattering shape for my eyelids and a good brush to apply my beloved gel eyeliner. As eyeliner is always been a bit of a trick for me, I'm super excited to share you some gems that made the application pretty easy even for a dummy beginner like I am.

Back in the days I was a huge eyeliner fan, I went through a lot of gel eyeliner pots in a few months as I used to wear eyeliner every single day with all my makeup looks. Last year though my makeup started becoming every day more minimal untill I started rocking my bare lids with just a thin coat of mascara to give my eyelashes a tiny bit of definition. Now it's been a while since I tried coming back to eyeliner again, but I really struggled in finding the perfect eyeliner shape for my eyes and this made everything a bit too disheartening as I always needed to go back and retouch my lines untill I just made a mess and remove everything. Recently though I came across this video and I was super attracted by the picture since that seemed to me a pretty similar eyelid shape to mine. The thing is with my eyelids that they are not that wide and my crease starts pretty close to my lashline, so it was really difficult to find a way to make the eyeliner show avoiding my crease as if the line goes just a bit too high it's a damn mess. That video came pretty useful to understand how to get a precise line, and even though I couldn't understand a single word, it is very illustrative and easy to follow, so I higly suggest to give it a whirl if you struggle with eyeliner like I do.

First thing I learned is you need to be very patient, have time, a good light and a big mirror in front of you, and also a table as an elbows support comes pretty handy to have a firm and precise hand. It's very important to me to start with a thin line all across my lashline and very close to it to be the as precise as possible, and then start thickening it as you go. As for the flick I just really carefully try to stay away from my crease, so I like to keep my eyes open while decided where the guide line for my flick would be, than connect the lines and fill in. I firstly thought I seriously need a pen eyeliner to make things easier, but I always hated pen eyeliners as I never could find a good quality one. I always loved the Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner (£6,79) in the shade Intense Black though as it's very black and easy to work with, plus it really lasts a long time on your eyelids as I never found a pen eyeliner to do - but I may have been a bit unlucky with the ones I tried. Anyway I always struggled with finding the perfect brush for applying it since the ones I tried in the past were either too thick or a bit too difficult to use to me. This until Real Techniques launched their new Real Techniques Silicone Liner Brush (£5,09) which is a very innovative eyeliner brush made out of silicone to apply your usual liquid or gel eyeliner with and get a more thin and precise line out of it. I find it's really great as you have the maximum control while applying your eyeliner and you can get very close to your lashline and start with a pretty thin line. Also it makes a very good combo with the Maybelline gel eyeliner as it never pick up too much product and you can work it throughout your lids as easly as possible. Even though I'm always afraid you can break it at some point if you're not too careful or you have a rough moment, I really suggest this super cheap but innovative brush as I think this is maybe the best inexpensive offer for a good liner brush out there on the market.

These few tricks and products made eyeliner application easier even for me, so if you're currently struggling with eyeliner shapes or in finding some good products, here you go! Hopefully this post could help some of you that still have some problems like I do. I know I can still get a better eyeliner shape and a better precision, though these to me is a pretty great progress for now, and I always remember that practice makes perfect. I'm so happy I can now rock a bit of eyeliner again on those eyelids of mine.
